UN accepts Russia's consent to prolong grain deal for 60 days

WASHINGTON, Mar 14 (PRIME) -- The U.N. has taken into account Russia's consent to prolong the grain deal for 60 days, while the rollover term indicated in the deal was 120 days, according to a statement published by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs late on Monday.

Spokesman for the secretary-general Stephane Dujarric said the U.N. advocates prolongation of the grain deal.

"The organization does everything to preserve the integrity and ensure the continuity of the agreement," the official said commenting on the negotiations on deal prolongation taking place in Geneva.

According to Dujarric, the negotiations finished late on Monday.

The deal, struck by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the U.N. on July 22, 2022, is to expire on Saturday.
